Back to school is already here! Are you ready for the back to school transition? Going back to school can be exciting yet overwhelming for some.
In today’s society we are all living on the fast track. We need to connect the dots and evaluate what else is impacting your situation that you can “weed” out? Take a moment to reflect on lifestyle choices such as reducing your overall toxic load, stress and schedule in exercise. In doing so, you will be more resilient in managing stressful situations.
Here are a few tips on Going Back To School With Ease.
Tip#1: Take care of YOU. Tips for the care giver (parents, grandparents etc).
Being a parent is not an easy job. There is so much pressure in today’s society with college fees and whether or not the kiddos are going to the “proper” school. Many financial advisors suggest prioritizing on your retirement first vs depleting your savings account.
I suggest prioritizing self-care time such as creating a Nourishment Menu. We could all use a little Vitamin-L (love to nourish YOUR soul). Having a Nourishment Menu can reset the mind. This can be as simple as getting a good nights sleep, taking a bath, booking a massage, or having a cup of tea with a friend.
Lets explore what being Mindful really means. Being “Mindful” entails truly being present vs reacting to a situation. For example, putting on your own air mask first. Try waking up a few minutes early to do a little deep breathing OR read a positive affirmation. You will be amazed by the immediate results you can achieve.
Breathing exercise to reset the mind: Breath in for 4-Hold for 7-Release for 8 seconds. Share this with your kiddos too so the entire family can benefit in letting it go.
Tip #2: Managing Stress
Managing stress is very important for our well-being and to be the best caregiver. Instead of visualizing morning chaos and a rushed daily routine; try stating “I accept clarity, calmness and gratitude” as an affirmation.
My personal tips for de-cluttering mentally and spirituality is to say “cancel-cancel” when I start letting my inner chatter get the best of me. I pause and flip the switch by focusing on gratitude and another amazing day, my amazing breath and my own heartbeat. I focus on grounding myself and reeling it in!
Based on Mind Body Stress Reduction theories, “How we see or perceive the experience in our life determines in large measure how we respond to stressful situations.” How can you practice being mindful this school year? How will you handle being able to respond to circumstances and conditions in your family’s life with more clarity and balance? Mindfulness practice clarifies our perception, so we CAN see our circumstances with balance, and enables us to handle our stressors with more skill and wisdom.”
Tip #3: Get organized
Put some skin in the game and prioritize de-cluttering your home environment, pantry, refrigerator and school lunch drawer. Whatever system you use (or lack of) just simplify it.
Organize your pantry to easily visualize and access plant protein alternatives, snacks, and whole grains that you can pre-cook and can be repurposed throughout the week. I like to have a lunch drawer with water bottles, lunch bags and stainless steel bento type of lunch box easily accessible. Less waste for the environment and you actually save space and money by reusing your bento lunch system.
